When creating The Marseille Medical Genetics Research Centre, our ambition was to establish a Medical Research center dedicated to rare genetic diseases. MMG is located at the Marseille Medical and Paramedical School/ La Timone hospital campus, in close vicinity of La Timone and La Conception hospital (Assistance Publique des Hôpitaux de Marseille, AP-HM). Clinicians and scientists share their activity between both structures.
To reach our aims, we capitalized on our expertise in deciphering the mechanisms involved in rare diseases to serve therapeutic development and new approaches for patients’ management. In this context, our research relies on existing forces in Marseille:
o 7 National reference centers
o 37 centers of expertise on rare diseases
o 2 accredited reference networks
o 30 scientific research teams
MMG scientists also share their expertise and experience through multiple national and international collaborations with academic and clinical research centers or the industry. MMG is also deeply involved in societal dissemination and work closely with several patient associations in France and abroad. With the support of SATT Sud Est, Inserm Transfert and Protisvalor, the Inserm and Aix-Marseille University research development entities, Valorization is also an essential component of the MMG strategy.
