Organization

Based at the university hospital campus of “la Timone”, the MMG is organized into 4 departments that work closely with the medical genetics department of the AP-HM.

The MMG's ambition is to contribute to a better understanding of rare genetic pathologies, as well as the exploration of their phenotypic and cellular consequences. The objective is to develop tools to enable precise diagnosis, optimize patient care and prevention of these diseases. The goal of MMG is to be able to propose innovative therapeutic strategies. All the unit's teams share a vision and a multi-disciplinary and translational strategy of the research based on clinical investigations of large cohorts of well characterized patients, we try to use more fundamental approaches using cellular and in vivo models to decipher the physiopathological mechanisms of diseases and to come with new possible therapeutic approaches.

Led by Dr. Frédérique Magdinier, the MMG is based on 4 collegial and participative structures:

  • A management committee made up of the 4 heads of departments and the general secretary.
  • A council of team leaders and project leaders.
  • A laboratory council involving the director, the secretary general, the team leaders, 2 representatives of technical and administrative staff, a representative of AP-HM staff, a representative of Aix-Marseille University, 2 PhD students and 2 post-docs delegates.
  • Steering committees (management/purchasing, scientific animation, security and safety, cell culture...).
