This paper reports the electrophysiological consequences of the variant in developing motor cortical pyramidal cells in this KI mouse. The authors show that the M current is decreased, that pyramidal cells are hyperexcitable, and that GABA-mediated network activities are increased. Altogether, these results suggest that a self-correction mechanism takes place that might explain the remission of seizures observed in this model. This reinforces the hypothesis of a critical period, during which Kv7 channels play a crucial role in brain development.
